What are causes of attic mold in Grand Rapids area homes?
Attic mold has many underlying causes, but moisture is the leading cause to remember. Without water, there can be no mold growth. To find the source of attic mold, it is essential to find the source of abnormal moisture in the attic. This can be from many things, including poor insulation, leaky ductwork, inadequate roof structures, bathroom fans, poor attic ventilation, non-insulated ducts, and no dampened roof unit.
Is attic mold dangerous?
Since attic mold is in the attic, the way in which air typically flows through the house prevents attic mold from entering the living space air. Fortunately, the adverse health effects associated with mold are not common with attic mold. Unfortunately, this can lead to unchecked attic mold growth, as there typically aren’t outright signs of mold in the attic space.
How is attic mold remediated?
Ver Wys first identifies whether the problem is mold or simply a lumber tint or staining. Once we’ve determined that it’s attic mold, we use Concrobium Mold Control to kill it. Does homeowners insurance cover mold?
Every insurance is different, so it’s essential to check with your specific insurance provider. Typically, this will determine what level of coverage you have for water damage. Since attic mold is caused by excess moisture, the source of the water in the attic will determine what aspects of the repair may or may not be covered.

Home improvement projects are not my favorite. Some are better than others, but in our case we needed a new roof. And new electrical. And insulation. And it all needed to be done at the same time. I am a first-time homeowner and was up against a roofing, ventilation, and insulation issue that I could not figure out the solution to. Drew at VerWys Home Improvement then came out and offered me something that few other contractors would - free advice and consultation with no expectation of compensation. When his first solution (spray foam) was still to costly for me, we talked more and landed on dense-packed cellulose in the slopes of my ceiling, and 12 inches cellulose in the kneewall attic flat. I'm going to be doing some foam board insulation and gable vents myself to save money, and Drew took the time over multiple phone calls to advise me on how best to complete these projects. He was upfront and honest about return on investment with the different solutions, and really helped me make a decision about my goals with this home. The least I owe him is this review. We haven't even completed the project yet, but I came here to say PLEASE give him your business! You won't regret it.
I can’t say enough good things about the crew that came out to do my insulation! These guys were professional, came right in the morning on time and jumped right in! They split up into twos for each area, had their equipment ready and worked non stop and didn’t stop until short lunch and when they were finished they walked around and cleaned up completely at the end of the day! They answered all my questions , were respectful and just an all round group of great guys!… I highly recommend this company!

Randy came out and assessed the current insulation in the attic of my daughter’s house. He provided us with pictures of the attic and gave a fair estimate for the improvements he would recommend.They worked with us on an a convenient date for the work. The crew arrived on time and literally “dove” right into the job. They crawled from bay to bay in the attic to install ventilation baffles. The crew added additional insulation and fashioned a new access panel to the attic for better performance. I meet with Drew the owner yesterday he cam to my home inspected my insulation in my home. HE WAS VERY PROFESIONAL didnt try to sell me anything extra that i didnt need. HE was very educational to me filled me in on lots of things. No high psi sales. There was things i asked him about that he told me he didnt want to waiste my money due to it wouldnt help me out in savings. Was just all around impressed with the experience with him. Very reasonable price. I would tottaly reccomend him for anything and everything.

I had Ver Wys Home Improvement insulate a previously uninsulated attic that was converted to living space 14 years ago. They had lots of previous experience in old Grand Rapids bungalows, so they knew exactly what to do for my house. They worked with my roofer to complete the job while the roof was off so they could access areas not easily accessible any other way. The team was great to work with and left the job site clean.The difference in comfort level is amazing - it is now a comfortable temperature in both warm and cold weather and I am starting to see savings in my energy bills. I wish I had done this years ago!
My house, built in the 30s and added to in the 70s, was a nightmare to insulate. There were 3 separate attics, knee walls, pocket attics, and a large cathedral ceiling upstairs that contained inadequate cellulose or fiberglass insulation that had my roof an icicle/ice dam factory in the winter and impossible to cool well in the summer. Drew Bleeker of VerWys Home Improvement, after several visits to measure and plan, came up with a way to insulate this mess by removing cellulose, spraying closed cell foam in nonventable areas, and doing so from inside and outside the home. We timed this to be done while we were replacing our roof. VerWys was able to closely coordinate its work with the roofers so that they could get at impossible spaces when the roofers removed roof decking. It was a complicated and difficult job but it was done in a day! This is a highly competent and professional operation. Complex problems are their bread and butter. Already this summer there is a huge difference in my ability to cool the upstairs space. I look forward to a winter without raking snow off my roof or worrying about leaks and damaged plaster (as happened regularly). Ver Wys Home Improvement was fantastic to work with to add insulation to our home. Drew came out right away to observe what we wanted done and talk us through what he thought would work best for our needs. Shannon set up appointment times for the different work to be done. All workers were polite and efficient.We had extra insulation added to our attic as well as insulation above our garage which used to be an oven in the summer and a freezer in the winter. Now with the garage ceiling insulated it is actually usable for a workshop.Also included in the work performed was spray foam below our three season room floor and above the patio below. After insulating, soffit was installed to give it a clean look. Outstanding experience working with Ver Wys. Drew came out and investigated our insulation related concerns. He pointed out numerous solutions with the heart of a teacher and thoroughly explained the pros and cons of each. The job required one crew to do spray foam and one to blow in insulation and add gable vents in two phases. Each crew was prompt, courteous, professional, and cleaned up when complete. Verwys was one of four companies I contacted about mold remediation. They were by far the most accurate and professional. They explained how the mold had gotten into my attic (someone less-than-professional had blown insulation into the attic and blocked the baffles that ensured proper ventilation). They explained the process of spraying to kill the mold and then painting to eliminate any effects in simple terms so I could understand it. Their price was extremely competitive, and they offered an optional level of service that would ensure not only that the existing mold was remediated, but that no new mold would form. And they told me that they could get me on the schedule the very next week. Everyone was professional and courteous. I recommend them without reservation.

This included cutting openings in current wood soffits, add baffles where needed, and add additional insulation to bring to code.Their crew began work at the the time that was stated.
