Blown in Blanket Insulation
Good reasons to eliminate it from your next insulation decision
Safety
This should always be the bottom line. If a product is not safe don’t use it.
Because BIB allows air to travel through it, fire spreads. We can only compare BIB to a cigarette filter. Air can pass through and spread fire. Remember you need three things for a fire: Air, Fuel, and a Spark.
Density
This is the leading downfall of the BIB system. One would only have to go to a job where BIB is being installed to investigate this issue. A practical problem occurs when you try to fill a cavity with netting on one side. The more density you add to the cavity, the greater the cavity will expand. This creates a big problem for the drywallers who need a clean level surface to install the drywall.
Infestation
The encroachment of insects is a major problem in new homes. BIB has no chemical deterrent to counter the attack from the six-legged predator that can infest your space.
Mice
Mice offer the biggest reason why Fiberglass blown in insulation should not be installed into the attic spaces. We didn’t realize this was such a huge problem until we studied ice dams on new houses. Ice should not be forming on new houses. When we were called to service new houses that had ice buildup, we noticed a huge amount of ice on houses insulated with fiberglass insulation. Upon further investigation it was learned that 100% of these houses had little holes as big as your index finger all over the attic. These were the holes created when mice tried to walk on the top of the fiberglass insulation. These little holes worked as hundreds of little chimneys for heat to escape into the attic. Thus the ice dams.
The Environment
It takes a huge amount of energy to manufacture mineral fiber insulation. NuWool is made from 100% recycled materials. Every day NuWool recycles 125-150 tons of newsprint, which can save 2500 trees!
Your Health
NuWool has been chosen to be the insulation of choice for all of the health homes in Michigan. The chemical make up of the insulation and the recycled newsprint makes NuWool your healthiest choice for insulation. Fiberglass has been proven to be a known carcinogen.
Logic
- Why use a product that must be a threat to your safety?
- Why use a product that is not safe for your own health?
- Why use a product that can help breed mice in your attic?
- Why not use a product that is used for control of insects?
- Why not use a product that can support the weight of a mouse in your attic?
- Why not use a product that is excellent soundproofing?
- Why not use a product in your walls and attic that has more effective R-value?
- Why not use a product that is affordable and less expensive than BIB?
- Why not use a product that supports our local economy?
- Why not use a product that helps the environment?
